God Listening “Morning
Medication” by Mary Jane Davis
Psalm 45:10 “Listen, O daughter,
consider and incline your ear.”
“Seek quiet time on the
gray days. Force discipline and
obedience until the answer comes,
because it will.”
I read that at a glance
this morning from an opened book
lying on my desk. I didn’t like it
much but there it was, so I figured
I’d better pay attention and do some
God listening.
Discipline and obedience
are a little itchy like wool in
summer. Yet to be honest, I know
that I needed that exact reading
today, though I’d rather just plant
my half price flowers I bought
yesterday, rather not think about
the area of lax disobedience nagging
at me.
I’d rather be footloose
and fancy free, yet always there is
the call to go deeper, look closer,
listen more astutely, care when I
don’t feel like caring.
I hear the little voice;
there is room for both, the carefree
and the discipline.
I have shown up for
work. I will pay attention. I will
listen. I will seek the quiet as I
dig, plant and water.
